Caring for your piece
A little care keeps a piece looking its best. Here is what each material needs, and what to do if the fit or the piece itself needs attention.
By material
- Sterling silver
- Store it in its pouch. Keep it away from water, perfume and chlorine, and bring the shine back with a silver cloth when it dulls.
- Gold plate
- Treat it a little gentler — take it off before swimming, showering or the gym. The gold layer is thin by nature; when it wears, replating is available.
- Gemstones and coloured stones
- Avoid knocking set stones against hard surfaces. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and skip ultrasonic cleaners on plated pieces.
